About the Breeds

Bernese Mountain Dog

image86

A Bernese Mountain Dog is a large working class dog from the Swiss Alps. Pronounced Berner Sennenhund in German, the Bernese Mountain Dog was historically used as a general farm dog and it carried out tasks such as guarding property, serving as a draft animal, and driving dairy cattle.
Recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1937, the Bernese Mountain Dog is known for its distinctive tri-color coat that is black with white on the chest and legs and rust markings above the eyes, sides of the mouth, front legs, and behind.  The white on the chest should resemble the white cross of the Swedish National Flag.

They are extremely docile & loving dog with a great attitude.  They also enjoy a good game of tug "o" war.

Royal Standard Poodle

image87

A Royal Standard Poodle is not a separate poodle breed. ... The American Kennel Club defines the Standard Poodle as being 15 inches or greater at the highest point of the shoulders. Breeders define royal-sized poodles as standing 25 inches or more at the shoulder and weighing more than 60 pounds when fully grown.

They can come in all traditional Poodle colors, Zonger (when not dyed pink) is considered champagne (white).

Poodles could be considered hypoallergenic but they are not allergen free. Historically used as retrievers, the etymology of the Poodle breed is debated with some arguing its origin rests in Germany while others argue France.

The Bernadoodle

image88

A Bernedoodle is a cross breed between a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. Bernedoodles can be a range of colors including:  tri color (black, white, and rust), bi color (usually black and white), sable, apricot.

Typically a bit smaller than a Berner they tend to shed much less as they have more of the Poodles curly coat which allows for very little shedding compared to the Berner.

They embody the warm hearted and loyal nature of the Bernese Mountain Dog and pair it with the intelligence and wit of the Royal Standard Poodle.
